Our Year 1 and 2 students recently enjoyed a highly successful and memorable school camp, filled with hands-on learning and plenty of fun. On Thursday, students travelled by bus to Sheepworld, where they took part in an engaging butter-making activity using cream, salt, shakers, and even a marble. The highlight for many was tasting their freshly made butter on crackers after all their hard work. The day continued with an informative shearing and dog show, where students learned about caring for sheep and the important roles different types of sheepdogs play in managing stock. They also explored the park, enjoying close encounters with a variety of animals, including sheep, deer, pigs, calves, rabbits, emu, alpaca, ponies, and goats.
Back at school, some students experienced the excitement of staying overnight in the classrooms, making the camp even more special. On Friday morning, after breakfast, we were fortunate to have Year 12 sports leaders from Otamatea High School run a lively tabloid sports session. This was a highlight for many students, with activities such as tug of war proving especially popular. The camp concluded with a valuable BARK session, where students learned how to stay safe around unfamiliar dogs, including safety positions and how to appropriately approach a dog they wish to pat. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to our parent helpers who generously gave their time to support and care for our students throughout the camp—your involvement helped make this experience both safe and enjoyable for everyone.
